Xylitol is a sugar alcohol used as a sugar substitute. It is found naturally occurring in our bodies, in the earth in foods such as strawberries and corn and in trees. Xylitol based products can help reduce dental decay. Xylitol can be found in toothpaste, gums, mints, candies, lollipops (like the ones at our office!), and more. Use caution with the amount of xylitol as excessive amounts can cause diarrhea. Check out what the California Dental Association has to say about Xylitol here: https://www.cda.org/Portals/0/pdfs/fact_sheets/xylitol_english.pdf
