  • Eat a healthy diet. Eat from the earth. Avoid processed foods.
  • Avoid soda, energy drinks, sticky snacks, candy, or excess carbohydrates.
  • If frequent snacking is a must – eat cheese, proteins, vegetables.
  • The AAP recommends juice be limited to less than 4 ounces per day.
  • Avoid gummy or sticky foods, including gummy vitamins and fruit snacks. These stick to the teeth and cannot be brushed or flossed off the teeth. Bacteria can then stick to the sticky substance and form cavities. Choose liquid vitamins or hard chewable vitamins (if age appropriate) and recommended by your child’s physician.
  • Do not put a baby to bed with a bottle/sippy cup or breast-feed a child while sleeping.
  • Have treats in moderation and always eat the treat with a meal to help reduce the acid attack on teeth that occurs with digestion”
